Cailyn Lavigne

MA, LAC, NCC / Licensed Associate Counselor

I understand my role as a counselor to be that of a collaborative partner, someone who can promote wellness in clients through being non-judgmental, validating, creating a safe space, practicing empathy, respect, genuineness and authenticity. I believe that we as human beings all share a fundamental need for belongingness and connection and deserve to be seen, heard, valued, and appreciated. Honoring where individuals currently are in their life journey, while compassionately working towards meaningful change in accordance with individual goals is foundational to my approach in supporting clients. I am drawn to the bio-psycho-social-spiritual and wellness models of counseling and am passionate about holistic, whole-person care. I believe that gratitude, self-care, and acceptance are powerful practices that can positively influence our mindset and perspective and lead to lasting change. As a therapist, I believe educating clients and providing psychoeducation throughout the therapeutic process is a powerful intervention as it helps to build and grow your own coping skill set and knowledge toolbox.

I realize that healing is not linear, and that this process looks different for everyone. Treatment must be tailored to meet each person’s individual needs while taking other important factors into consideration such as race, gender/ gender identity, culture, sexual orientation, age, and lifestyle factors, in order to gain a more comprehensive understanding on how to best serve each client with the best quality care. Therapy is not a “one size fits all” situation, which is why I offer an integrative approach and eclectic therapeutic style in my work with clients. I work with adults, young adults, teens, and adolescents and draw from many treatment modalities such as Person-Centered, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Solution-Focused, Strengths-Based, Mindfulness and Mind-Body based interventions. In our journey together, we will work on cultivating a deeper sense of self-awareness (the first step in any behavioral change) by exploring thoughts, beliefs, emotions and behaviors that could potentially be causing distress and pain, while also utilizing your own personal strengths to feel empowered to build your life worth living.

I am a Licensed Associate Counselor, a National Certified Counselor, earned my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2023, and am foundationally trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy. In the future, I plan on completing a certified yoga teacher training in order to most effectively integrate body-based interventions in my work with clients. I like to spend my free time putting energy into things that fill my heart and soul. Some of these things include spending quality time with my favorite humans (family and friends), baking/cooking, running, spending time outside in nature, hiking/ camping, practicing yoga, reading, beach days, traveling, and going to concerts.

Like the old saying goes, “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass…It’s about learning to dance in the rain.” I look forward to braving the storms of life together, and learning how to keep dancing, no matter how much rain might be falling from the sky as we anticipate the return of the sunshine.

Treatment Specialties

Anxiety, Depression, Stress Management, Coping Skills, Life Transitions, Relationships, Self-Esteem/ Self-Image, Mind-Body Connection, Trauma, Suicidality

My Passion

I am a firm believer that our mental health and physical health are one and the same; inextricably connected, one impacting the other. We must examine both in order to best support our overall health and wellness. For me, I consider my role as a healer to be the greatest honor and privilege. It is deeply humbling to have the opportunity to walk side by side with other human beings on their healing journeys as we navigate this thing called life together. This work sets my soul on fire; guiding, educating, supporting, and empowering individuals to lead their most meaningful and fulfilling lives.

  • Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, The College of New Jersey

Every client has the capacity for personal growth, self-awareness and change. In my role as a counselor, I serve as a collaborative guide, offering support, insight, and practical tools to help clients build self-reliance and navigate life’s challenges with confidence.

Central to my approach is the creation of a safe space rooted in unconditional positive regard. I strive to meet each client with empathy, respect, and authenticity, honoring the uniqueness of their experiences and perspectives.

While emotional exploration is important to the healing process, I view it as a starting point, not the final destination. I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify and shift unhelpful thought patterns, strengthen emotional regulation, and develop effective coping strategies.

My work emphasizes personal agency, encouraging clients to take ownership of their growth both in and outside of sessions. By blending emotional insight with skill-building and practical application, I aim to empower clients to become active participants in their healing process and build self-efficacy.

Ultimately, I believe that with the right support, individuals can access their inner strengths, overcome adversity, and create meaningful, lasting change.

Treatment Specialties

CBT, MB-CBT, Person-Centered, Strength-Based, Motivational Interviewing. Stress Management, Emotional Regulation, Critical Self-Talk

My Passion

I am deeply committed to mental health care because I believe that every individual has the capacity to reshape their lives when supported in a way that honors who they are. As a BIPOC counselor, I strive to create an inclusive and respectful environment where clients feel safe to explore their identities and navigate life’s challenges. I find fulfillment in helping clients develop greater resilience, autonomy, and genuine self-acceptance. To me, providing mental health care is not only a tool for personal growth but a foundation for stronger, healthier communities—and I’m honored to be part of that process.

I am passionate about delivering mental health care because I have seen firsthand the significant positive effects that appropriate support can have on an individual's overall health. I know firsthand how important it is to receive understanding and kind care during trying times because I have battled with mental health issues myself. However, I have also witnessed loved ones suffer from subpar treatment, which has strengthened my resolve to enhance mental health services. This dual perspective has motivated me to seek mental health therapy since I am aware of the harm that can result from poor care as well as the healing capacity of good care. I wish to offer the kind of efficient, caring treatment that may restore hope, promote healing, and create a better future for others.

Therapy can help you discover your ability to be resilient, empowered and motivated to take on challenges that may be hard to face alone. Often, our interpretations of events and situations impact how we interact with others. By recognizing our own personality, traits, and preferences, we can explore how to more effectively handle difficult situations and life transitions.

I want to assist you to identify and utilize your strengths while providing empathetic support, guidance, and hope. I specialize in working with individuals of all ages who are struggling with anxiety, depression, complex trauma, work stressors, narcissism, grief, and relationships. I have extensive experience working with people with disabilities and assisting individuals who are having a hard time in the workplace, school or college.

My client centered approach is individualized and I use various treatment modalities that include (but are not limited to) Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Solution Focused Therapy. I also believe in incorporating nutrition, exercise, music, arts and creativity as appropriate. I offer in person and virtual appointments.

I obtained my Bachelors (BA), Masters of Psychology (MA), and Masters in Social Work (MSW) through Rutgers University. I am a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) and have completed a Certification course in the use of food as medicine for mental health.
